Zip HydroTap taps at a glance

A Zip HydroTap is a tap plus an under-bench unit. The tap is what you see on the benchtop. The unit does the actual work: heating water to near-boiling, chilling it, carbonating it, and filtering it before it hits the spout.

One tap replaces the kettle, the fridge water jug and the sparkling bottles. Boiling comes out at around 98°C, chilled sits at fridge-cold, sparkling is carbonated on demand, and everything runs through a filter first.

They suit busy family kitchens, renos where bench space is tight, home offices, and anyone tired of waiting on the kettle. If you drink a lot of tea, cook often, or just want cold filtered water without a jug in the way, it earns its keep. HydroTap models and configurations

Zip splits the HydroTap range into design families. Same water tech underneath, different look on top.

Classic: traditional shape with a straight vertical spout and lever handles. Suits older-style and transitional kitchens.
Arc: softer curved spout. The most common pick for contemporary kitchens.
Cube: square, geometric lines. Fits minimalist and architectural benchtops.
Celsius: an all-in-one design that combines HydroTap functions with a regular mixer, so you get hot, cold, boiling, chilled and filtered from the one tap.

The G5 is Zip's current generation, with touch controls, a safety lock on boiling, and better energy use than earlier models.

Water configurations run from boiling-only, to a boiling and chilled tap combo, up to boiling, chilled and sparkling. Most designs come in chrome, matte black, brushed nickel or gunmetal. Boiling, chilled, sparkling: what each one gives you

Not every model does all four. Match the configuration to what you'll actually drink.

Boiling (~98°C): this is the zip boiling water tap function most households use daily, instant hot water for tea, coffee, blanching veg, sterilising bottles. No kettle wait.
Chilled: filtered water at fridge temperature. No jug taking up shelf space.
Sparkling: carbonated filtered water on demand. Needs a CO2 canister connected to the under-bench unit, which you'll replace periodically depending on how much fizz your household gets through.
Ambient filtered: room-temperature filtered water. Handy if cold isn't your thing.

How Zip's filtration works

Every Zip HydroTap runs water through a zip water filter cartridge rated to 0.2 microns before anything else happens. A micron is one-thousandth of a millimetre, so a 0.2 micron filter catches particles far smaller than a human hair.

That reduces sediment, chlorine taste and odour, and cysts like giardia and cryptosporidium. The result is water that tastes cleaner and looks clearer, whether it comes out boiling, chilled or sparkling.

Cartridges sit in the under-bench unit (essentially an under sink water filter built into the system) and are typically replaced once a year, or sooner in hard-water areas. Replacement filter cartridges are available separately. The tap tells you when it's time.

What you need before it goes in

The under-bench unit needs cupboard space with clearance for airflow, so check the model's dimensions against your cabinetry before ordering. You'll also need a standard power point inside the cabinet, a cold water connection, and (for boiling) a small vent path so steam can escape safely.

Installation has to be done by a licensed plumber. Zip HydroTaps carry Watermark certification, which is the mandatory approval for plumbing products in Australia, and Watermark rules require licensed installation.
