Quick honesty check before you scroll. Almost every "stone bath" sold in Australia, including most of what you'll see here, is a solid surface composite. Not a slab carved from quarried stone. That's not a knock. It means a bath that looks and feels like stone but weighs a fraction of the real thing, holds heat well, and can be repaired if it scratches.
This collection covers solid surface, stone composite and stone resin baths from Fienza, Parisi, Abey and Belbagno. Fienza has the deepest range here, including the Bahama, Minka, Sasso and Matta. If you want the broader category first, our freestanding baths collection has every material side by side.
Solid surface, composite, stone resin and natural stone
- Solid surface (cast stone composite). This is what most Fienza baths are. A mineral filler bound with resin, cast into a mould, then finished smooth. Available matte or gloss. Warm to the touch, repairable, and reasonable on weight.
- Stone composite / marble-acrylic blends. Brands like Belbagno Ritz and Parisi Stonetec use crushed marble blended with acrylic, often reinforced with fibreglass. Slightly heavier, very rigid, with a dense feel under the hand.
- Stone resin. Similar idea to solid surface but with a higher resin ratio. Lighter weight, good thermal performance, smooth finish.
- Natural stone. Quarried marble, granite or travertine, hollowed out. Genuinely heavy, porous, needs sealing, and rarely sits in this price bracket. You won't find true natural stone in this collection.
Stone bath materials compared
| Material | Weight (empty) | Heat retention | Repairability | Price band | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solid surface | 60 to 110kg | Very good | Wet-sand scratches out | $$$ | Matte freestanding centrepiece |
| Stone composite | 90 to 140kg | Very good | Limited | $$$$ | Dense, rigid feel, gloss or matte |
| Stone resin | 50 to 90kg | Good | Light polishing | $$$ | Lighter installs, upper floors |
| Natural stone | 300kg+ | Excellent | Specialist only | $$$$$ | Slab floors, bespoke builds |
| Acrylic (for reference) | 25 to 45kg | Fair | Polish or patch | $$ | Budget and lightweight |

Shapes, sizes and where they fit
Freestanding ovals and egg shapes make up most of this collection, with the Fienza Minka Fluted leading the current vertical-rib look. Slipper and double-ended shapes suit longer ensuites. Corner stone baths like the Fienza Matta (left and right hand) claw back floor space in awkward rooms, and back-to-wall versions sit flush against tiled walls so you lose less footprint.
Common lengths run 1350mm, 1500mm, 1600mm, 1700mm and up to 1910mm. Leave at least 600mm of walkway around the long side and 200mm clearance for tapware. Short on length? Have a look at round baths. They fit tighter footprints without losing depth.
Weight and delivery: check this before you order
Empty weight on a stone bath sits between 60kg and 140kg. Filled with water and one bather, you're looking at 150kg to 300kg+ sitting in one spot. On a concrete slab that's a non-issue. On a suspended timber floor, get a builder or engineer to confirm the joists can take a concentrated load, especially on upper levels.
Then check delivery access. Front door width, hallway turns, stair landings, and whether two people can actually lift it in. Measure before you order, not after.
Installation and what your plumber needs
Your plumber will want Watermark certification (the mark that says the bath and waste meet Australian plumbing standards) on the bath and the waste and overflow kit. The waste and overflow itself needs to comply with AS/NZS 3500, the standard that governs how baths drain and vent.
Decide on freestanding bath tapware early. Floor-mounted needs rough-ins set into the slab before tiling. Wall-mounted needs studs and rough-ins at the right height. Browse bathroom tapware once you've picked the bath. A licensed plumber handles the connection, levelling and silicone seal.
Cleaning, scratches and long-term care
Solid surface and composite baths clean up with warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Skip abrasive scrubs and bleach. Light scratches on matte solid surface can be wet-sanded out with fine grit (1500 to 2000). Wipe down after use to keep matte finishes stain-free, and choose bath caddies with soft feet rather than metal that can mark the rim. Natural stone needs annual sealing.
Why buy a stone bath from Blue Leaf
We stock a tight selection of brands we know work: Fienza, Parisi, Abey and Belbagno. Each listing carries the full spec, dimensions, weight and waste configuration so you and your plumber aren't guessing. We ship Australia-wide and ask about access before dispatch, because a 130kg bath that can't get up the stairs is no one's idea of a good day. If you're stuck between two shapes or unsure about install requirements, ask us. We'd rather you order the right one the first time.

Stone bath FAQs
Mostly no. Most "stone baths" sold in Australia are solid surface or composite, made from mineral fillers bound with resin. Genuine quarried stone exists but is rare at this price point.
Empty: roughly 60 to 140kg depending on material and size. Filled with water and a bather: 150 to 300kg+ in one concentrated spot.
Often yes, but get a builder or engineer to confirm the joists handle the load, particularly on upper floors. Concrete slabs are fine without checks.
Some do, some don't. Check the spec on each listing. If there's no overflow, your plumber fits a compliant waste kit under AS/NZS 3500.
Not recommended. UV, frost and weather break down the resin binder over time.
Stone feels heavier and warmer, holds heat longer, and looks denser. Acrylic is lighter, cheaper and easier to install but feels hollow under the hand. For other freestanding looks see clawfoot baths.
